'Melancholic noises by angst-ridden northerners' Exit Spells is the work of introspective northerners Chris Kennedy and David Cantello. Their debut, self-titled album was produced entirely remotely over the course of last year – the result of the pandemic but also a desire to make music outside of the traditional band environment that they’d grown overly-familiar with. This new approach resulted in a greater emphasis on texture and ambience, with the pair combining vintage synthesizers, drum machines and samples to create rich soundscapes that ebb and flow around delicate vocal melodies.
